[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jin-Hyung Park] Gwangju Bank (President Song Jong-wook) announced on the 24th that it participated in the 'Save Mudeungsan Watermelon Campaign' event at Gwangju Buk-gu Office and purchased a total of 10 million KRW worth of Mudeungsan watermelons.
The event was attended by Song Jong-wook, President of Gwangju Bank, Moon In, Mayor of Gwangju Buk-gu, and other officials, who gathered to express their commitment to mutual development for revitalizing the local economy through the purchase of Mudeungsan watermelons.
Mudeungsan watermelons, which are on the verge of extinction due to aging labor force and decreasing production volume, have seen declining sales every year, adding to the difficulties faced by the farmers. This year, the challenges were compounded by damage caused by heavy rains, making harvesting difficult.
In response, Gwangju Bank has been purchasing Mudeungsan watermelons annually to alleviate the difficulties of the farmers, and this year as well, it purchased watermelons worth 10 million KRW, reflecting on the significance of saving Mudeungsan watermelons together with its employees.
Song Jong-wook, President of Gwangju Bank, said, "As a representative bank of Gwangju and Jeonnam, we participated in this 'Save Mudeungsan Watermelon Campaign' with the spirit of overcoming the region's difficulties together," adding, "We will do our best to fulfill the corporate social responsibility to invigorate the local economy."
