[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] On the 24th, the number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea rose again to the 1,500 range, reaching 1,509.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 1,509 from the previous day to 239,287. The sources of new infections were 1,470 local cases and 39 imported cases.
Among the locally transmitted cases, 960 cases, accounting for 65.3%, were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area. This includes 429 in Seoul, 469 in Gyeonggi, and 62 in Incheon.
There were 510 cases outside the metropolitan area. By region, the confirmed cases were ▲Busan 58 ▲Daegu 72 ▲Gwangju 12 ▲Daejeon 63 ▲Ulsan 26 ▲Sejong 7 ▲Gangwon 16 ▲Chungbuk 30 ▲Chungnam 60 ▲Jeonbuk 33 ▲Jeonnam 7 ▲Gyeongbuk 28 ▲Gyeongnam 68 ▲Jeju 30.
There were 39 imported cases. Among them, 12 were detected during quarantine, and 27 were confirmed locally. There were 20 Korean nationals and 19 foreigners.
The total number of tests conducted the previous day was 164,150. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 91,284 tests were conducted, and 17,133 people were tested at temporary screening clinics outside the metropolitan area.

Meanwhile, as of midnight, 381,675 people received new COVID-19 vaccinations. The cumulative number of first-dose vaccinations reached 26,301,089. The vaccination rate relative to the population is 51.2%. Among the new vaccinations, 39,375 received the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine, 332,658 received Pfizer, 8,258 received Moderna, and 1,384 received the Janssen vaccine.
The number of fully vaccinated individuals increased by 714,780 from the previous day to 12,283,734. The second-dose vaccination rate relative to the population is 23.9%. Among those who received the first dose of the AZ vaccine, 659,100 received the second dose of AZ, and 47,614 received Pfizer as their second dose. Additionally, 6,246 people received a second dose of Pfizer only, and 436 completed their second dose of Moderna. The 1,384 people who received the single-dose Janssen vaccine were counted as fully vaccinated upon their first dose.
