[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Display announced on the 24th that it will participate in the 2021 Korea Display Industry Exhibition (IMID 2021) and showcase the industry's first commercially successful polarizer-free OLED technology called 'Eco²,' as well as next-generation foldable products that fold twice in an S-shape.
At IMID 2021, held from the 25th to the 27th at COEX, Samsung Display will set up three exhibition spaces under the theme 'Better Life thru Samsung OLED' to showcase the present and future of Samsung OLED technology.
Samsung Display will exhibit the Eco² OLED, which was recently installed in the Galaxy Z Fold3, at this exhibition. Eco² is a technology that replaces the polarizer with a changed panel stacking structure to block external light reflection and increase light transmittance, reducing panel power consumption by up to 25%.
There will also be exhibitions where visitors can compare the viewing experience between displays with 'Under Panel Camera (UPC)' technology and regular hole-design screens, as well as displays comparing the blue light emission levels of OLED and LCD. Additionally, in line with the recent trend of the OLED market expanding from smartphones to medium and large sizes, there will be an exhibition allowing visitors to experience the image quality of OLEDs for laptops.

Samsung Display will also showcase the Flex In & Out foldable product that folds twice in an S-shape. Using this product is expected to improve portability compared to folding once and allow users to enjoy content on a larger screen. Additionally, the Flex Note, a foldable display integrated into a laptop, will be introduced. This product features a 17.3-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and can be folded into an 'L' shape to be used as a 13-inch laptop or unfolded to be used as a large monitor-like screen.
A Samsung Display official stated, "The OLED display market is expanding not only in smartphones but also in IT products, and various foldable display products with different form factors are being developed," adding, "We expect this IMID exhibition to be a great opportunity to experience how innovative OLED technology will change our daily lives."
