[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Due to the impact of Typhoon Omais, the 12th typhoon, a typhoon warning was issued overnight in the Busan and Ulsan areas, where heavy rain and strong winds accompanied by thunder and lightning swept through.


Flooding occurred in roads, houses, and vehicles, leading to ongoing rescue operations by the fire department.


According to the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 24th, at around 12:19 a.m., two residents were trapped and rescued after water flooded a semi-basement store in Buk-gu.


In Dongnae-gu, two people including a disabled person were rescued from a submerged Duribal vehicle, and in Yeonsan-dong, Yeonje-gu, two people trapped in a vehicle and one person trapped in a vehicle in Suan-dong, Dongnae-gu were rescued consecutively.


Two residents were assisted by the fire department in a flooded house in Cheongnyong-dong, Geumjeong-gu, and one citizen trapped due to road flooding in Jeonggwan-eup, Gijang-gun also received help.


At around 1:23 a.m., one citizen trapped in a building in Yeonsan-dong, Yeonje-gu, and one person trapped due to flooding in a hotel in Buk-gu were also rescued by the fire department.


Throughout the night, 208 typhoon-related reports were received by Busan 119, of which 8 were flooding incidents, rescuing 12 citizens.


The fire department supported drainage operations, pumping out approximately 275 tons of water from 91 flooded houses and roads.


There were also evacuations due to river flooding.


At around 1 a.m., the Imgi Stream in Cheolma-myeon, Gijang-gun overflowed, flooding 15 houses, and about 30 villagers urgently evacuated to a nearby village hall.

In the Ulsan area, Typhoon ‘Omais’ also poured heavy rain.


The area around Taehwa Market was temporarily submerged, and flooding damage occurred in houses and roads.


The Ulsan Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters issued an emergency level 3 alert at 11 p.m. on the 23rd and responded to typhoon damage in real time.


At around 2 a.m. on the 24th, the typhoon, moving northeast at 47 km/h about 14 km east of Miryang, Gyeongnam, brought heavy rain and strong winds to Ulsan, which was closest to the typhoon.


Heavy rain in a short time caused flooding damage in many parts of Ulsan.


In the Taehwa Market area of Jung-gu, water rose temporarily, flooding most market stores. Merchants, along with officials from Jung-gu Office, began recovery efforts such as pumping out water.


The Taehwa Market area was flooded during Typhoon Chaba in October 2016, when Ulsan experienced a maximum hourly rainfall of 139 mm, submerging over 300 stores and stalls and causing fatalities.


On this day, a family of five was reported trapped due to rising water around their house in Taehwa-dong and was rescued by the 119 rescue team dispatched to the scene.


In Beomseo-eup, Ulju-gun, about 10 residents from five households in Cheonsang-ri, Pyeongcheon Village temporarily evacuated to a senior citizens’ center fearing heavy rain damage and later returned home.


Reports of flooding in commercial areas of Dong-gu and houses in Ulju-gun continued. Vehicle flooding reports were also received: six in Buk-gu and four in Ulju-gun.


The Ulsan Fire Headquarters received a total of 271 typhoon damage reports and handled 59 of them.


At around 3 a.m., the water level of Taehwa Bridge (flood warning stage 4.5 m) rose to 4.13 m, submerging parts of the riverside walking path.


Nineteen road sections, including the Beongyeonggyo Gangbuk Underpass, were closed but are being reopened as water recedes.


Ulsan City announced that there has been no damage caused by the typhoon so far.
