[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Typhoon No. 12 'Omais' passed through Gyeongnam, bringing strong rain and wind, but it moved out of the affected area without causing major damage.
According to Changwon Meteorological Station on the 24th, as of 5 a.m., the typhoon was moving northeast at 65 km/h about 83 km southeast off the coast of Uljin.
Accordingly, the heavy rain in Gyeongnam, which at one point reached a maximum of 99 mm per hour, is gradually easing.
The cumulative rainfall until 6 a.m. was 205.5 mm in Samcheonpo, 184 mm in Jangmok, Geoje, 167 mm in Goseong, 161.5 mm in Jinbuk, Changwon, and 153.5 mm in Sangbuk, Yangsan.
More than 100 mm of heavy rain fell across the province, especially along the southern coast.
In particular, Jangmok in Geoje and Samcheonpo experienced torrential rain of 99.5 mm and 89 mm per hour, respectively, at one point.
The maximum instantaneous wind speeds recorded were 33 m/s at Seoimal, Geoje, 30.7 m/s at Yokjido, Tongyeong, and 30.6 m/s at Maemuldo.
The typhoon warning issued for 14 cities and counties in Gyeongnam, including Namhae, was lifted from 4 a.m.
The typhoon is expected to weaken into an extratropical cyclone as it moves northeast around 9 a.m. near 40 km north-northwest off Ulleungdo.
However, even after moving out of the typhoon's influence, rain is expected to continue for a while due to a low-pressure system approaching from the West Sea and will cease by night.
From morning to afternoon, strong rain accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning, with hourly rainfall of 50 to 70 mm and a maximum of over 200 mm, is expected in some areas.
Since the previous day, 173 typhoon-related reports have been received as rain and wind accompanied by thunder and lightning battered the region.
At around 1 a.m., a house was flooded in Yeongo-myeon, Goseong County, and two people along with two pet dogs were rescued after a road was washed away in Daega-myeon.
In addition, related damages such as landslides, flooding, backflow, and traffic signal malfunctions occurred continuously, but there were no casualties.
Earlier, about 240 residents from landslide and low-lying risk areas in Changwon evacuated to nearby community centers.
