Oleg Syromolotov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, responded to Sputnik's question about the possibility of deploying troops to Afghanistan by saying, "Such a question is inappropriate," and "Such a plan does not align with national interests."
He expressed a practically favorable stance toward the Taliban, stating, "The new Afghan regime has begun to restore order and does not require military support from anyone."
The Taliban, having occupied Afghanistan for over a week, has begun forming a new government in earnest.
Sputnik reported, citing officials, that Abdul Ghani Baradar, the second-in-command of the Taliban, will announce decisions related to the next government within the next two weeks.
In an interview with Yonhap News Agency on the same day, the Taliban said, "Consultations for forming an inclusive government are underway," and "We hope to be recognized as the legitimate representative government of Afghanistan not only by Korea but by the entire world."
