[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) has selected 'Cultivated Culture, Evolving Park' as the winning entry for the 'Mokma and Sintree Park Customized Remodeling Design Competition.'
'Cultivated Culture, Evolving Park (Mokma Park "Health for All, Green Health for Everyone," Sintree Park "Community for Future, A Community Garden for the Next Generation")', a collaborative work by VIRON and Studio 201, captures both the memories held by the existing parks for over 30 years and the vision for new parks for future generations.
For Mokma Park, the proposal includes ▲a senior playground ▲a healing vegetable garden and rehabilitation garden ▲a Mokma Park?Anyangcheon link ▲and a health pavilion serving as the center of green healing.
For Sintree Park, while respecting the existing usage patterns as much as possible, the proposal newly presents ▲a water and circle community garden ▲and a lawn yard.
The judging panel commented, “The winning design respects the existing park conditions (spatial structure, terrain, vegetation, etc.) while actively proposing new park orders and uses, and by actively introducing new programs, it excellently embodies the values that park renovation design should pursue.”
Yangcheon-gu plans to grant VIRON and Studio 201, the winners, the rights for basic and detailed design by August, and after six months of design work starting this month, construction will proceed sequentially from 2022.
The district will also provide a modest reward to two shortlisted teams and plans to hold an exhibition of the competition works and publish a collection to present a new vision for urban park remodeling.
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “With excellent works selected through the design competition, I hope the renovation of the two parks will serve as an opportunity to advance Yangcheon as a ‘Cultural City.’ We will strive to create parks that connect the major ecological axes within the region and link the areas divided by the parks (Mokdong central district and other areas) to enable communication together, making them a representative ecological and cultural hub in the southwest area.”
