LG Uplus Launches 5G-Based 'Premium M2M' Service

Utilizing 5G Technology, Up to 10 Times Faster Speed Compared to LTE... Targeting New Businesses in Robotics and Autonomous Driving

LG Uplus Launches 5G-Based 'Premium M2M' Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] LG Uplus announced on the 18th that it has launched a 'Premium Machine-to-Machine (M2M)' service that supports ultra-high-speed and large-capacity data transmission based on 5G.

The premium M2M service, utilizing 5G and LTE CA (Carrier Aggregation) technology, offers a theoretical maximum speed of 1.3 gigabits per second (Gbps). Compared to existing LTE M2M, the data transmission speed is 10 times faster, and more than 10 users can connect to a single M2M terminal to use 5G wireless communication.

Based on enhanced data transmission speed, reduced latency, and multi-access capabilities, the premium M2M service can be used not only in new industry fields such as the metaverse, robotics, and autonomous driving but also by small and medium-sized enterprises or small business owners as a substitute for wired internet at their workplaces.

The M2M service using LTE CA technology increases speed by connecting three frequency bands to widen the bandwidth. Users can select and use the desired M2M service among LTE, LTE CA, and 5G according to their needs.

The usage fee is structured from a minimum of 31,900 KRW per month (20G) to a maximum of 220,000 KRW per month (500G), regardless of 5G or LTE CA, based on the amount of data provided. Within the provided data limit, users can use data without speed restrictions, and even after exhausting all basic data, the service continues at speeds of 1 to 10 Mbps.

Reflecting users' opinions that quick response to M2M service failures is difficult, LG Uplus also provides a 'Remote Status Management Platform' that monitors premium M2M terminals and lines remotely and responds to failures. To address security concerns, a 'VPN' supporting encrypted communication and secure data transmission is also offered as an additional service.

Janghyuk Lim, Head of LG Uplus Enterprise Infrastructure Business Group (Senior Executive Director), said, "Many customers demand high-speed and large-capacity data transmission compared to existing LTE, which led to the launch of the premium M2M service. We will lead the market by launching various terminals and differentiated services in the future."
