[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Semisysco, a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 17th that it has achieved its first quarterly operating profit surplus since entering the electric vehicle business.
The electric vehicle division recorded sales of 2.6 billion KRW and 7.3 billion KRW in the first and second quarters of 2021, respectively, on a consolidated basis. In the second quarter, it succeeded in turning operating profit positive.
After the launch of the compact electric vehicle EV Z (EBeuI JeTa), vehicle semiconductor supply was interrupted, causing production to be severely limited for several months. However, with the recent stabilization of semiconductor supply, vehicle deliveries have become smooth. As of the end of July, based on domestic registration numbers of electric passenger cars, Semisysco's EV Z ranked 5th, surpassing the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Audi e-tron, Tesla Model 3, and Model Y. Among domestic completed vehicles, it ranked 3rd, just behind Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia Niro EV.
A company official stated, "If the supply for vehicles under purchase contracts proceeds normally, Semisysco's electric vehicle division will achieve its best-ever performance this year," adding, "When combined with the company's other division, the semiconductor display division, it is possible to achieve record-high sales, and the previously inevitable poor performance due to entering a new business is expected to improve rapidly."
The EV Z is characterized by its compact body. It allows parking in narrow alleys and even two cars in one parking space. It also offers solid driving performance, enabling unrestricted driving on city roads as well as highways and other motorways. Unlike typical electric vehicles that only support fast and slow charging, the EV Z supports fast charging, slow charging, and even 220V household outlet charging. The EV Z is equipped with a maximum output 33kW motor and a 26kWh capacity battery, allowing it to travel 233.9 km per charge based on the Ministry of Environment's urban driving mode (150 km based on combined fuel efficiency).
A Semisysco official said, "Consumer interest has increased even more since the EV Z was aired on CJ OnStyle Plus, CJ OnStyle's T-commerce channel, last July."
Meanwhile, Semisysco, a semiconductor and OLED display solution specialist, has entered the electric vehicle new business based on its world-class technology and know-how in the semiconductor and display fields since its listing on KOSDAQ in 2011.
Marking its 20th anniversary this year, Semisysco plans to accelerate its second leap forward through the EV Z. Along with recruiting dealerships nationwide, it will continue efforts to introduce the EV Z to more customers by strengthening digital marketing.
