[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] The Financial Security Institute announced on the 17th that it will hold the Financial Sector Cyber Threat Analysis Competition (FIESTA 2021).
The competition will be held across the fields of forensics, malware, mobile, and web hacking. This year, it reflects the latest cyber threat trends such as ransomware and advanced persistent threats (APT). It is explained that scenarios similar to actual incident response processes are composed to evaluate threat analysis capabilities.
Six teams with excellent results (three teams each from financial company employees and university (graduate) students) will be awarded the Financial Security Institute Director's Award and prize money. Top-performing university (graduate) student teams will also receive preferential treatment when applying for employment at the Financial Security Institute. The prize money has been expanded to about three times that of the previous year.
Eligible participants are employees of financial companies (member institutions of the Financial Security Institute) and university (graduate) students, and registration is available through the website starting from the 23rd. The competition will begin on the 3rd of next month and last for 11 days.
The Financial Security Institute expects that through the competition, financial sector information security practitioners and university (graduate) students interested in information security will experience the latest types of cyber incidents and improve their incident response capabilities.
Kim Young-gi, Director of the Financial Security Institute, said, “As Korea is expected to face a shortage of about 10,000 information security personnel over the next five years, securing tailored security personnel and nurturing talent for the financial industry is urgent,” and added, “We hope for the active interest and participation of financial company employees and university (graduate) students.”
