[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Amid the continuous surge of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea, the number of new confirmed cases on August 15, Liberation Day, was in the early 1,800s.

The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, 1,817 new confirmed cases were added, bringing the total to 223,928. The 1,817 new cases themselves represent the highest number recorded on a Saturday.
