[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, and Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, exchanged congratulatory messages on the 15th to mark Liberation Day, highlighting the friendly relations between the two countries.
According to the Korean Central News Agency, in the congratulatory message sent by General Secretary Kim to President Putin on the day, it was stated, "The Korea-Russia (Bukreo) friendship, forged in blood during the arduous anti-Japanese war days and the struggle against a common enemy, has overcome all challenges of history and continues unchangingly through solidarity and generations."
He added, "Even today, our people solemnly remember the Red Army soldiers who sacrificed their precious lives for the sacred cause of Korea's liberation," and "We express confidence that the friendly cooperative relations between the two countries will be further strengthened and developed to a new strategic height according to the agreement reached at our meeting in Vladivostok in 2019."
President Putin also sent a congratulatory message to General Secretary Kim, stating, "What is important is that the excellent tradition of friendship, solidified during those severe times, remains a strong foundation for the development of relations between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea today," and "I am confident that by implementing the agreements reached at the 2019 Vladivostok meeting, we will further promote mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation."
Chairman Kim and President Putin have exchanged congratulatory messages every year to commemorate Liberation Day.
