[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Facebook has postponed the resumption of office attendance to early next year due to the surge of the Delta variant.

According to CNBC on the 12th (local time), Facebook announced in a statement that "due to the recent spread of the Delta variant in the United States, we are delaying the return to U.S. offices until January 2022."

Originally, Facebook planned to resume on-site work in October, but as Delta variant infections surged explosively, it decided to postpone the office return plan by another three months.

Facebook stated, "The same measure will be applied not only to the U.S. but also to some overseas offices where the spread is severe."

Recently, Microsoft, Google, Apple, and others have also decided to delay office returns to October, considering the spread of the Delta variant.

CNBC explained, "With this decision, Facebook became the first U.S. IT company to resume office attendance next year."

Following last month’s announcement by ride-sharing company Lyft to postpone office return to February next year, the world's largest e-commerce company Amazon announced on the 5th that it would delay office attendance until January next year.
