'Nosamo' Myeong Gye-nam and over 2400 cultural artists to declare support for Lee Jae-myung


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] More than 2,400 cultural and artistic figures, including actor Myeong Gye-nam, former president of 'Nosamo,' are signing in support of Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province.


The Lee Jae-myung campaign announced in a press release on the 12th that 2,461 cultural and artistic figures would declare their support for Lee Jae-myung as a presidential primary candidate that afternoon.


Attendees at the support declaration ceremony include Kim Jun-kwon (Director of the Korea Mokpan Culture Center), Lee Jae-mu (poet), Cho Kyung-hoon (Chairman of the Korea Animation Industry Association), Kang Eun-il (haegeum soloist), Kim Dae-gyun (Chairman of the Korea Traditional Performing Arts Federation), Park So-eun (soprano), Lia (singer), and Baek Hyung-gi (performance planner).


In addition to actor Myeong, signatories include Kim Jeong-heon (former Chairman of the Korea Arts & Culture Committee), Kim Jin-su (broadcaster), Won Soo-yeon (webtoon artist), Ahn Byung-joo (traditional dancer), Mogeu (film music director), Choi Chang-ho (broadcaster), Park Bul-ttong (former Chairman of the Korean Minye Association), Jang Yoon-sung (permanent conductor of the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra), Lim Cheol-min (music director of the Ahn Eak-tai Memorial Foundation), Kim No-am (Chairman of the Paju Art Bunker Artists’ Cooperative), Kim Dong-su (Dean of the Sungshin Women’s University College of Music), Kim Kwan-jin (musician of the band Buhwal), and Hwang Yoo-sun (soprano).


In their declaration, they stated, "On July 20, 2021, the 'Gyeonggi-do Artist Creative Allowance Ordinance' passed the provincial council plenary session. This ordinance was established to alleviate the hardships faced by artists struggling with creation and livelihood due to the prolonged spread of COVID-19," adding, "The Gyeonggi-do Artist Creative Allowance Ordinance is welcome news like rain in a drought."


They continued, "We send applause and support for Governor Lee Jae-myung’s timely support policy," and said, "Artists support those who understand the reality we face. We sincerely support politicians who care about our welfare and social security. We support leaders who support artists with practical, innovative, and bold drive. We believe that only Governor Lee Jae-myung fits this description."


They added, "We, the artists, will support and unite to help Governor Lee Jae-myung win the next presidential election. We expect him to be a leader who will brilliantly blossom culture and arts and elevate South Korea to a true cultural powerhouse. In this era of great transformation, we support presidential primary candidate Lee Jae-myung."
