[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Chanel Korea, the Korean subsidiary of the French luxury brand Chanel, suffered a hacking attack resulting in the partial leakage of members' personal information.
On the 8th, Chanel Korea announced on its website, "We confirmed on the 6th that some customers' personal information was leaked on the 5th due to an external hacking attack on a database storing cosmetics membership customers' personal information."
According to the announcement, Chanel Korea blocked the relevant IP and illegal access routes, then informed customers of the information leakage via email and text messages. The leaked information includes customer names, phone numbers, birthdays, and purchase history. Some customers' 'optional information' such as addresses, gender, and email addresses provided to Chanel Korea were also leaked. However, payment information, customer IDs, and passwords were not leaked.
Chanel Korea stated, "We sincerely apologize for causing concern to our customers," and added, "We are continuously making efforts to strengthen personal information protection measures."
