[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, unleashed harsh remarks targeting Lee Jae-myung and Yoon Seok-youl, the leading candidates in approval ratings from both ruling and opposition parties.
On the 6th, at the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Design Center during the 'Youth 4.0 Forum,' when asked about the conflicting positions between Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, who is related to labor unions, and his pledges, Hong responded, "Governor Lee is a populist who freely distributes taxes for votes and will do anything for votes."
Earlier, on the 2nd, Hong stated on his social media (SNS), "The Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (Jeon-gyo-jo), which turned elementary, middle, and high school education into a leftist ideological training ground, and the tyranny of militant unions that reign above the law and have made the world lawless, are outrages that cannot exist in an advanced country era," vowing to stop the tyranny of Jeon-gyo-jo and militant unions.
On the other hand, on the previous day (the 5th), Governor Lee said in a non-face-to-face Zoom meeting with over 120 members of labor organizations and the Labor Headquarters for 'Respect for Labor,' "We will create a department in charge so that labor is respected and workers can be the main agents and central figures, and it is right for workers to oversee other workers."
Hong said, "He may be elected by receiving many votes, but it is not desirable behavior for the country and the nation. I will not do that," adding, "Even if I lose votes, I will establish correct policies for the country and correct unfair actions for the entire people. I am different from candidate Lee Jae-myung."
He continued his offensive, saying, "During President Moon Jae-in's era, it was like a slow train to Venezuela, but if candidate Lee Jae-myung becomes president, it will be an express train to Venezuela."

Hong also sharpened his words against former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl.
He said, "Candidate Yoon Seok-youl is the person who destroyed the conservative right-wing camp. Even when he was the head of the Central District Prosecutors' Office, he rose five ranks above his peers in a meteoric rise. The background of that rise was because he put former President Park Geun-hye behind bars," attacking him.
He added, "He investigated ministers, vice ministers, and chiefs of the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations," and claimed, "I don't think those who committed crimes properly went to prison. It was political revenge and political prosecution."
Hong said, "Isn't that how he rose to Prosecutor General? That person who thoroughly destroyed us crossed over to the opposing camp and is receiving overwhelming support in the TK region," adding, "It's outrageous."
