[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The ‘Democracy 4.0 Research Institute,’ a research group centered around pro-Moon Jae-in members of the Democratic Party of Korea, raised their voices on the 6th regarding former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol’s ‘Fukushima remarks,’ stating, “He is unqualified as a presidential candidate. He must officially apologize to the public.”
They held a press conference at the National Assembly that morning and stated, “Former Prosecutor General Yoon, who causes a blunder every day, must officially apologize to the public and show responsibility for his remarks.”
The Democracy 4.0 Research Institute pointed out, “Although it has been 10 years since the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, recovery efforts are still ongoing, but residents of the affected areas continue to suffer, and many have not been able to return to their hometowns. The adverse effects of the nuclear accident and the risk of contaminated water discharge are ongoing issues. Japanese civil society and expert groups are also pointing out the problems caused by the Japanese government’s irresponsibility.”
They continued, “However, former Prosecutor General Yoon, who is running as a presidential candidate for the People Power Party, a public political party, claimed that ‘there was no radioactive leakage,’ as if representing the Japanese government, which makes one doubt their ears. If he made the remarks without knowing the facts, he is an incompetent and ignorant person unqualified to be a presidential candidate,” criticizing him.
They added, “Understanding the nuclear accident on the same level as Japanese right-wing extremists and failing to distinguish even the history of our democracy raises doubts about the qualities a presidential candidate should possess. He must officially apologize to the public and take appropriate responsibility.”
