[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education mourned the late Kim Hong-bin (57, Honorary Ambassador of Hope Jeonnam Education), the first disabled person to successfully summit all 14 Himalayan peaks over 8,000 meters, who went missing during descent and passed away on site as the leader of the Broad Peak expedition team.
According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 6th, since the funeral procedures for the late Kim Hong-bin began on the 4th, a memorial banner stating “We will not forget. Rest in peace, Honorary Ambassador of Hope Jeonnam Education Kim Hong-bin” has been posted on the main page of the website to honor his spirit.
On the media portal site ‘Jeonnam Education Tong,’ a memorial message saying “We will not forget the great challenge and noble spirit of exploration” was posted along with a link to the ‘Online Memorial Altar’ operated by the Korea Alpine Federation, allowing visitors to pay respects remotely. Memorial messages were also posted on official SNS channels to deepen the mourning.
Additionally, at the entrance of the office building on Eojinnuri-gil, Samhyang-eup, Muan-gun, a banner containing the memorial phrase “We will not forget. Rest in peace, Honorary Ambassador of Hope Jeonnam Education Kim Hong-bin” and a photo of the late Kim during his lifetime was displayed, conveying the sorrow of the Jeonnam education family.

On the afternoon of the second day of the funeral, the 5th, Superintendent Jang Seok-woong visited the memorial altar set up at Yeomju Gymnasium in Seo-gu, Gwangju, to pay respects to the late Kim Hong-bin and console the bereaved family.
Superintendent Jang said, “Kim’s spirit of challenge, having summited 14 Himalayan peaks over 8,000 meters with a disabled body, will be forever remembered as a great lesson that gives ‘hope’ to our children, the future leaders.”
Meanwhile, the late Kim Hong-bin was appointed as the ‘Honorary Ambassador of Hope Jeonnam Education’ by the Jeollanam-do Office of Education in 2017 and actively engaged in supporting the ‘Himalaya Hope School’ expeditions for Jeonnam students, supporting the construction of the ‘Nepal Jeonnam Human School,’ and giving special lectures to students.
