[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The Ministry of Justice appointed Lee Sang-gap, Director of the Human Rights Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, as the new Legal Affairs Director of the Ministry of Justice on the 5th, filling the vacancy caused by the nomination of Kang Seong-guk as Vice Minister of Justice.

The new Legal Affairs Director graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Political Science and passed the 38th Judicial Examination. He worked as a lawyer for 21 years. He represented victims of forced labor under Japanese colonial rule and filed lawsuits against the Japanese government and corporations. In August last year, during the tenure of former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, he was appointed Director of the Human Rights Bureau, where he contributed to the establishment of the Basic Human Rights Policy Act and promoted policies such as the introduction of the criminal public defender system and the expansion of support projects for victim court-appointed lawyers.

Along with the new Legal Affairs Director, the Ministry of Justice appointed Yoon Woong-jang, current Director of Crime Prevention Planning, as the Director of the Crime Prevention Policy Bureau, which had also been vacant. The Ministry of Justice stated, "We expect the new Legal Affairs Director and the Director of the Crime Prevention Policy Bureau to contribute to various legislative improvements and the enhancement of the criminal management system based on their diverse field experience."
