[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Chris Cuomo, the flagship anchor of the US CNN network and brother of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, has been revealed to have given advice regarding his older brother's sexual misconduct scandal.
According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 4th (local time), the New York State Attorney General's Office released a report the previous day detailing that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women. Governor Andrew Cuomo, who had denied the sexual harassment allegations that had surfaced until now, has found himself in a dire crisis as a result.
The scandal has intensified especially as the prosecutor's report mentioned the actions of Chris Cuomo, the governor's younger brother.
It was revealed that Chris participated in meetings where Governor Cuomo's aides discussed measures related to the sexual misconduct scandal.
Earlier, WP reported in May that Chris had participated in such discussions via phone, but at that time neither Chris himself nor CNN issued any significant statements.
Chris joined CNN in 2013 and currently hosts a flagship current affairs program called "Cuomo Prime Time," named after himself.
Before the sexual misconduct scandal involving his older brother broke out, he even invited the governor onto his show to highlight a friendly image and create opportunities to promote COVID-19 measures.
However, as women who were aides to Governor Cuomo came forward one after another to reveal sexual harassment, it has been pointed out that "Cuomo Prime Time," the show hosted by his younger brother, could not avoid being affected by the fallout.
In fact, amid the growing scandal in May, CNN executives reportedly considered suggesting that Chris take a long leave of absence and temporarily step away if he was to participate as part of his brother's team, according to the New York Times (NYT).
While CNN viewed Chris's actions as inappropriate, the NYT noted that no disciplinary actions were taken against him.
Chris, the person at the center of the controversy, appeared on his show on the 3rd, the day the prosecutor's report was released, and remained in his position.
During the broadcast, he covered President Joe Biden's COVID-19 measures in detail but omitted the president's call for his older brother's resignation, the NYT pointed out.
