Jeongeup-si Selects 3 "Green Villages Without Forest Fires"

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk has selected Wombaeksan Village in Shintaein-eup, Jinsanggol Village in Sannae-myeon, and Minha Village in Sanoe-myeon as excellent green villages in the “Creating Green Villages Without Open Burning” campaign organized by the Korea Forest Service.

According to the city on the 5th, the “Creating Green Villages Without Open Burning” campaign is a project implemented by the Korea Forest Service since 2014 to prevent illegal open burning and strengthen wildfire prevention publicity and education, as the burning of various wastes before the farming season has emerged as a major cause of wildfires.

The three villages selected as excellent villages this time independently carried out wildfire prevention publicity, wildfire monitoring, and agricultural byproduct collection, achieving the result of not having a single wildfire incident.

They were also evaluated to have faithfully fulfilled the pledge of green villages without open burning, as no illegal burning activities were detected during mobile crackdowns.

In addition to the three villages selected as excellent villages, 247 villages in Jeongeup City participated in this campaign, and many villages exemplary practiced the compliance items of the pledge.

The participating villages widely raised awareness of the risks of wildfires caused by open burning through village meetings and campaigns, practiced prohibiting agricultural waste burning, and conducted independent monitoring activities, taking the lead in eradicating the culture of open burning.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, “This achievement was made possible by the residents’ change in awareness and voluntary participation regarding illegal open burning,” and added, “We will fulfill our duty to preserve Jeongeup’s beautiful natural forests, including Naejangsan, and create a wildfire-free Jeongeup City.”
