[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] Former Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Governor Won Hee-ryong criticized Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, who announced a basic housing pledge on the 3rd, saying, "Don't treat the people like monkeys."

On the 4th, former Governor Won stated on his Facebook, "Lee Jae-myung's basic housing is nothing more than renaming rental housing," and argued, "The limitations of public-led housing supply have been proven through vacancies in public rental housing."

He continued, "If the supply shrinks due to the introduction and heavy taxation of new taxes such as the land holding tax mentioned by Governor Lee, the ones who ultimately suffer will be the common people," adding, "He said the basic housing supply target includes the middle class, but it ends up taking away the share that truly needs protection?the common people."

Former Governor Won mentioned the limitations of Lee's basic housing pledge and introduced his own alternative pledge. He claimed, "I will resolve housing difficulties through the housing voucher system that I have advocated," and said, "With an annual budget of 3.5 trillion won, the common people will be able to receive direct support and benefits." He also directly compared the figures, saying, "It is a faster and more precise policy than Lee's 100 trillion won plan."

At the end of his post, he strongly criticized Governor Lee, saying, "Lee is treating the people like monkeys," and "Before doing the basic series, he should first have basic decency."

Meanwhile, on the 3rd, Governor Lee announced the second pledge of the 'Basic Series,' stating, "I will supply more than 2.5 million houses during my term, including more than 1 million basic houses." The pledge aims to provide public housing so that anyone without a home, including the middle class, can live in high-quality housing for over 30 years at affordable rents based on construction costs.
