'Galaxy Buds2' Released in One Week... "5 Minutes Charging for 55 Minutes Use"

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] With the Galaxy Unpacked event, where Samsung Electronics' second half flagship models will be unveiled, just a week away, rumors have surfaced that the new wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds2, can be used for up to 55 minutes with just 5 minutes of charging.

On the 3rd (local time), IT specialist media SamMobile and others cited IT tipster SnoopyTech to reveal additional specifications of the Galaxy Buds2.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Buds2 supports wireless charging with the Qi standard via a USB Type-C port and features fast charging, allowing up to 55 minutes of use after a 5-minute charge. However, the battery life is expected to be shorter than initially reported. With a single charge, the Galaxy Buds2 can be used for 5 hours with Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) enabled, and 8 hours with ANC disabled. The portable charging case is expected to hold enough power for 13 hours with ANC on and 20 hours with ANC off.

The battery capacity of the Galaxy Buds2 is 60mAh for each earbud and 472mAh for the portable charging case, making it Samsung Electronics' third wireless earbud equipped with ANC, following the premium Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds Live. Notably, a new feature has been added that activates ANC even when only one earbud is worn.

On the other hand, the waterproof rating is expected to be higher than previously known, likely applying an IPX7 rating. The waterproof and dustproof 'IP rating' is distinguished by two numbers: the first digit indicates dust protection, and the second digit indicates water resistance. Dust protection ranges from 0 to 6, with 0 sometimes represented as 'X', while water resistance ranges from 0 to 8.

Additionally, the Galaxy Buds2 will be released in four colors: Black, Olive Green, Purple, and White, and will support Bluetooth version 5.2, an improvement over the Bluetooth 5.0 supported by the Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds+.

According to global market research firm Counterpoint Research, global wireless earbud shipments are expected to reach 310 million units this year, a 33% increase from last year. In the first quarter, Apple led with a 26% market share, followed by Xiaomi at 9%, and Samsung Electronics at 8%.

Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy Buds2, along with next-generation foldable smartphones the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3, and the Galaxy Watch4 series smartwatches at the Galaxy Unpacked event held online on the 11th.
