Daegu District Court Sangju Branch "Serious Case, Proven Failure to Implement Safety Measures Such as Leash and Muzzle"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The owner of a hunting dog who attacked two women on a walk, biting their bodies and causing serious injuries, has been detained.
According to the Sangju Branch of Daegu District Court on the 4th, the court issued an arrest warrant on the 3rd after a detention hearing for Mr. A (in his 60s), stating, "The case is serious and the facts are substantiated."
Earlier, Mungyeong Police applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges of gross negligence causing injury and violation of the Animal Protection Act.
Mr. A is accused of taking a total of six dogs, including three hunting Greyhounds and mixed breeds, on an outing on the afternoon of the 25th of last month without safety measures such as leashes and muzzles, and biting two women out for a walk, causing severe injuries.
The police stated that Mr. A released six adult dogs without safety measures such as leashes on the walking trail, causing harm to residents, and applied for an arrest warrant.
The victims' side claimed, "The dog owner Mr. A did not properly control the dogs," while Mr. A reportedly stated during the police investigation that "I did my best, but it was impossible to restrain all six dogs."
As a result of this incident, the two injured women sustained serious wounds to their faces and heads and underwent suturing surgery, but significant aftereffects are expected.
Earlier, Mungyeong City imposed a fine of 1.2 million won (200,000 won per dog) on Mr. A for violating the Animal Protection Act in relation to this incident.
However, although Mr. A's dogs were not properly muzzled at the time of the accident, they were not classified as one of the five types of "dangerous dogs," so no fine was imposed for the failure to wear muzzles.
