Crossed the finish line in 45.94 seconds... 2nd place goes to rival Benjamin
Karsten Warholm (25) of Norway set a new world record in the men's 400m hurdles. On the 3rd, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium in Japan, he crossed the finish line in 45.94 seconds in the final of this event. He shaved 0.76 seconds off his previous record of 46.70 seconds, set last month on the 2nd in Oslo, Norway.
This is the first time the 46-second barrier has been broken in this event. Warholm's world record was also aided by the strong performance of his rival Rai Benjamin (24, USA). They produced a neck-and-neck battle until clearing the final, tenth hurdle. Benjamin's time was 46.17 seconds, surpassing the previous world record. Third place went to Brazil's Alison dos Santos, who finished the race in 46.72 seconds.
