[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Min-sik) announced on the 3rd that it held the 'Related Agencies Council for the Establishment of Smart Gwangyang Port' and signed a business agreement to strengthen future port security.
The agreement involved the Authority, the National Intelligence Service, Yeosu Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office (Director Cho Shin-hee), Gwangyang Customs (Customs Director Kim Ki-jae), Yeosu Coast Guard Station (Chief Ha Man-sik), Yeosu Immigration Office Gwangyang Branch (Director Lee Jong-su), and National Yeosu Quarantine Station Gwangyang Branch (Branch Chief Park Gye-ran), among others.
Additionally, the signing of the business agreement was conducted through a non-face-to-face relay signature method by each institution to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
According to the agreement, these institutions will actively cooperate in ▲ the success and early stabilization of the Gwangyang Port automation testbed construction project ▲ establishing counter-terrorism and security preventive measures following the construction of automated terminals ▲ building a joint preventive response system to strengthen information processing facilities and cyber security related to digitalization of operations.
A National Intelligence Service official stated, “It is meaningful to meticulously prepare among related agencies from the planning stage for unforeseen port security issues in future ports,” adding, “This is ultimately an essential element for the stable operation of smart ports.”
President Cha Min-sik said, “Through this project, the introduction of full automation in all work areas of the container terminal for the first time in Korea will promote the establishment of a stable smart port domestically and enhance technological and industrial competitiveness,” and added, “Based on an ESG-based management system emphasizing environment, social value, and transparent project implementation, we will faithfully fulfill our mission as a public institution.”
