Pororo Appears in BBC Documentary... Both Toddlers and Parents Satisfied

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Olleh tv Kidsland, an IPTV service exclusively for infants and toddlers used by 5.6 million households, is introducing new original kids content.

Digital platform company KT announced on the 3rd that it will launch "Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia: Shark Expedition," featuring marine animals, on Olleh tv Kidsland. Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia can be watched for free through the Olleh tv "Kidsland-Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia" menu.

Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia is an Olleh tv original content jointly produced by KT, BBC?which holds the world's best natural documentaries?and Iconix, the producer of the globally popular character Pororo. Pororo appears in BBC’s high-quality nature documentary footage to tell stories about dinosaurs, baby animals, and sharks tailored to children’s perspectives.

The Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia series is loved by children interested in dinosaurs and animals. Since natural observation helps improve children’s cognition, observation, and inquiry skills, it has also received positive responses from parents. Since its first release in July last year, 500,000 households have watched it over the course of a year. Children of various ages from infants to 10 years old consistently watch this content, with a particularly high usage rate among 3- to 4-year-olds. Among households that watched Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia, half continued to watch BBC nature documentary content consecutively. Pororo’s appearance is interpreted as having increased viewer interest.

After watching Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia, using homeschooling play materials called "Kidsland Worksheets" to encourage children to review what they have watched is also an effective way to use Kidsland. Kidsland Worksheets are provided for free on Olleh tv Kidsland’s official Instagram account.

Kim Hoon-bae, Executive Director of KT Media Platform Business Division, said, “Olleh tv’s original content ‘Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia’ provides vivid natural observation experiences and is one of the contents loved by all children regardless of age or gender,” adding, “We hope children who have to spend a lot of time indoors due to social distancing will have a cool and enjoyable summer vacation with the sea animals shown in Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia.”

Choi Jung-gu, Executive Director of Iconix, the producer of Pororo who produced this Kidsland Nature Encyclopedia, said, “It is significant as a collaboration between Pororo, Korea’s representative kids character loved for nearly 20 years, KT, the No.1 IPTV provider, and BBC, the documentary powerhouse,” and added, “We highly appreciate KT’s commitment to content investment, which laid the foundation for the world’s first kids documentary production.”
