[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) has completed the blueprint for the new integrated administrative service building it is creating.

The district announced the final winning design of the international design competition held for the construction of the integrated office building in the Magok district.

The winning entry is "Gangseo Jingyeong," a joint submission by Haean Comprehensive Architects Co., Ltd. and H Architecture P.C.

"Gangseo Jingyeong" is a work that modernizes the true-view landscape painting by Jeong Seon, a representative Hwaseong (Painting Saint) of the Joseon Dynasty who had a deep connection with Gangseo-gu, having served as Yangcheon-hyeollyeong, the equivalent of the current Gangseo District Mayor, for five years.

Based on the true-view landscape painting that beautifully depicts the harmony of nature, villages, and daily life of people, it envisions the park-type administrative complex town "Gangseo Jingyeongdowon (眞景都園)," where a modern version of true-view landscape painting unfolds, and where the modern city and Gangseo’s nature form a new relationship.

In particular, the layout of the office building harmonizing with the surrounding large park maximizes openness, and the functionality, efficiency, and flexibility for changes in the workspace were highly praised by the judges.

The winner of the international design competition, Haean Comprehensive Architects Co., Ltd., will receive a certificate and priority negotiation rights for basic and detailed design.

Based on the results of the international design competition, the district plans to build the new office building as a cultural office shared with residents, enabling integrated administrative services, an open space for rest and leisure, and a future-oriented smart office, completing it as a landmark of Gangseo-gu.

The integrated office building is scheduled for completion in 2026 and will be constructed on a 20,244㎡ site at 745-3 Magok-dong, housing the district office, district council, health center, and convenience facilities together.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “The construction of Gangseo-gu’s integrated office building will be a dignified building befitting the status of the developed premium city of Gangseo, marking the start of a new 50 years and a symbol heading toward a future city. Now that the international design competition has concluded, we will proceed smoothly with step-by-step plans and procedures with greater responsibility so that the integrated office building can become a new growth engine leading future development in Gangseo.”

Currently, Gangseo District Office, completed in 1977, has faced increasing safety issues due to aging, and maintenance budgets have been rising annually.

Also, due to limited space, the main office, annex, seven leased locations, district council, and health center have been operated separately, causing inconvenience to residents and difficulties in work coordination.

Therefore, the district is actively promoting the construction of the integrated office building, having completed feasibility verification by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and investment review by Seoul City last year. The district council’s shared property management plan review has also been completed, so all administrative procedures are finalized.
