Pohang City Bathhouse Association Decides on Voluntary Closure from 3rd to 8th Due to Local COVID-19 Spread

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 2nd, Pohang City held an emergency quarantine inspection meeting chaired by Jeong Younghwa, Director of the Environment Bureau, with local hot spring associations and the Pohang branch of the Korea Bathhouse Association, along with other bathhouse industry officials.

This meeting was held to prepare countermeasures following the recent occurrence of COVID-19 cases in bathhouses.

As of 5 PM on the 2nd in Pohang, 9 additional confirmed cases were reported in one day. Including the recent bathhouse-related cases, 39 people have been confirmed positive over the past week.

At the meeting, the Bathhouse Association voluntarily decided to close for five days from the 3rd to the 8th. In this regard, Pohang City plans to thoroughly conduct joint public-private inspections and guidance on social distancing and quarantine rules for bathhouses that continue to operate.

A Pohang City official stated, "Since the risk of infection increases the longer the bathhouse usage time, we ask for cooperation to minimize usage time and to refrain from consuming food inside the bathhouses."
