[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Seoul city announced that the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases in Seoul was tentatively counted as 250 over 18 hours from midnight to 6 p.m. on the 2nd.
Compared to the same time frame, this is the lowest record in 35 days since June 28 (173 cases), and it is 91 cases fewer than last Monday (July 26) with 341 cases, and 84 cases fewer than the previous day (August 1) with 334 cases. The total number of confirmed cases for the entire day was 205 on June 28, 351 on July 26, and 365 on August 1.
The significant decrease in confirmed cases compared to the previous day or a week ago is attributed to a sharp drop in the number of COVID-19 tests conducted the day before. The number of tests on the 1st was tentatively counted at 25,286, the lowest in four weeks following July 4 (23,660), and only about 41% of the average daily tests over the past 15 days (July 18 to August 1), which was 60,979.
However, the positivity rate (number of confirmed cases on the day compared to the number of tests the previous day) is expected to exceed 1%. Over the past 15 days, the daily positivity rate fluctuated between 0.6% and 1.2%, with an average of 0.8%.
As of 6 p.m. on the 2nd, among the new confirmed cases in Seoul, 3 were imported cases, and the remaining 247 were domestic infections.
New confirmed cases from ongoing major cluster infections included 3 from a sauna in Dongjak-gu (July), 3 from a daycare center in Seocho-gu, 1 from a restaurant in Yeongdeungpo-gu (July), and 1 related to a restaurant in Mapo-gu (July), with an additional 15 cases from other cluster infections.
Accordingly, the cumulative confirmed cases in Seoul by major cluster infections were counted as 49 from the sauna in Dongjak-gu (July), 18 from the daycare center in Seocho-gu, 80 from the restaurant in Yeongdeungpo-gu (July), and 51 related to the restaurant in Mapo-gu (July).
Among the new confirmed cases, 162 were confirmed contacts of existing cases not managed as cluster infections, and 62 cases are under investigation due to unclear infection routes.
As of this time, the cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Seoul was tentatively counted at 65,443. The total number of confirmed cases for the day will be finalized and announced in the morning based on the data as of midnight on the 3rd.
