[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Seo Chunsu, the mayor of Hamyang County, urged full-scale response efforts including enhanced quarantine measures following the elevation to Level 4 social distancing to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) within the region and proactive participation of residents in testing.

On the morning of the 2nd, the county held an executive meeting chaired by Mayor Seo, where reports on important pending projects to be promoted by each department were presented, and cooperation among departments was secured to ensure smooth project implementation.

Mayor Seo stated, “Since the COVID-19 alert has been raised to the highest Level 4, we must devote all efforts to focus on preventing its spread,” adding, “This week is critical, so I earnestly ask public officials to lead by example in strictly adhering to quarantine rules, and residents to observe a ‘brief pause’ by refraining from unnecessary private gatherings.”

The county has elevated social distancing to the highest Level 4 until the 8th and is mobilizing all means to prevent local spread, including conducting proactive diagnostic testing for all residents.

Additionally, Mayor Seo requested thorough attention to current urgent tasks such as safety management measures for vacation spots during the holiday season, securing national and provincial funding, improving integrity, actively utilizing vacant houses to increase population through return-to-farming and rural migration, and ensuring flawless execution of Expo-related duties.

Mayor Seo emphasized, “Despite difficult circumstances, various achievements such as being the only nationwide investment-leading district have emerged,” and urged, “Please do your best to create the future 100-year development momentum of our county through the successful conclusion of COVID-19 and the Expo, which is just over 30 days away.”
