Hanwha Construction executives and employees along with representatives from the Gyeongbuk Intellectual Developmental Disability Welfare Association are celebrating the opening of the 98th Foretna Library. Hanwha Engineering & Construction announced on the 2nd that it has opened the 98th branch of the 'Forena Library,' a library within a social welfare facility, in Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
The Forena Library project, named after Hanwha E&C's apartment brand Forena, is a project that creates libraries by utilizing idle spaces in social welfare facilities such as facilities for the disabled. This project, which has been ongoing for 11 years since 2011, is part of Hanwha E&C's active ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management and a representative social contribution activity that leverages the characteristics of the construction industry.
The opening ceremony of the 98th Forena Library, held at the Pohang branch of the Gyeongbuk Intellectual Developmental Disability Welfare Association, was attended by a minimal number of people, including Han Sang-ho, Director of Welfare at Pohang City, Kim Ok-hee, Head of the Pohang branch of the Gyeongbuk Intellectual Developmental Disability Welfare Association, and Kang Jong-myung, Manager at Hanwha E&C.
At the plaque unveiling ceremony, attendees exchanged brief congratulatory remarks and agreed to continue supporting the improvement of educational environments for the disabled, social participation, and independence through the establishment of a quality reading environment. Hanwha E&C also plans to maintain a continuous cooperative relationship rather than stopping at a one-time library establishment.
Over the past 11 years, Hanwha E&C employees have contributed more than 5,000 hours to the creation of libraries, and approximately 60,000 books have been donated. Additionally, Hanwha E&C continuously conducts book donation campaigns involving both employees and the general public.
Following the opening of the 98th Forena Library, Hanwha E&C aims to open the 100th branch within this year and is holding an Instagram event to celebrate the 100th Forena Library, which anyone can participate in to show support.
The event, running for one month from July 28 to August 27, invites participants to share the meaning of the number 100 in their own way on Instagram with hashtags, celebrating this special number together. Winners will receive prizes such as hotel accommodation vouchers, meal coupons, and aquarium admission tickets. Detailed information can be found on Hanwha E&C’s official Instagram account or official blog.
Jeon Chang-su, Head of Human Resources Support at Hanwha E&C, stated, "This year, due to many restrictions on external activities caused by COVID-19, we will actively promote non-face-to-face volunteer activities."
