[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Kia announced on the 2nd that it will launch The Kia EV6, the first model of its dedicated electric vehicle EV series.

On the first day of pre-ordering, the EV6 recorded a total of over 30,000 reservations during the pre-order period, starting with a record-breaking 21,016 units?the highest ever among Kia’s passenger cars and sport utility vehicle (SUV) models.

The EV6 launched on this day features ▲the country’s first zero-to-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.5 seconds (based on the GT model) ▲eco-friendly materials ▲a multi-charging system capable of 800V ultra-fast charging ▲V2L (Vehicle To Load), an energy storage system (ESS) that can supply power while on the move ▲and state-of-the-art safety and convenience features.

In particular, the EV6 Long Range model is equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery, enabling a maximum driving range of 475 km on a single charge (2WD, 19-inch wheels, without built-in cam). The Standard model is equipped with a 58.0 kWh battery and has been certified for a maximum driving range of 370 km (2WD basis).

Regarding the selection ratio by EV6 model, Kia explained that 70% of pre-order customers chose the Long Range. Following the Long Range model, the GT-Line accounted for 24%, which is interpreted as reflecting both demand for differentiated design and customer satisfaction with dynamic styling.

Kia plans to initially launch the EV6 Standard, Long Range, and GT-Line models, and add the high-performance GT model in the second half of next year, operating a total of four lineups.

The selling prices of the EV6 (reflecting eco-friendly vehicle tax benefits and a 3.5% individual consumption tax) are: Standard model ▲Air 47.3 million KRW ▲Earth 51.55 million KRW; Long Range model ▲Air 51.2 million KRW ▲Earth 55.95 million KRW ▲GT-Line 56.8 million KRW.

Through Kia Flex, customers can freely use the EV6 for 30 days by paying only a monthly subscription fee, with the option to extend or cancel the usage period freely, allowing use for the desired duration and return without penalty. Kia also provides unlimited charging card add-on services to Kia Flex users to make charging the EV6 more convenient. For customers who want to use an electric vehicle for a short period within three days, a short-term rental product will also be offered.

Additionally, from the 27th of this month until July next year, Kia will open 'EV6 Unplugged Ground Seongsu,' an electric vehicle-specialized complex cultural space in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, providing customers with a comprehensive experience from product trials to test drives and purchases of the EV6.

Kia, which equipped the EV6 with a remote diagnosis system that constantly monitors vehicle status, has established the 'EV6 Quick Care Service,' allowing customers to receive maintenance at Kia’s directly operated service centers nationwide without separate reservations for one year after launch. Furthermore, a specialized warranty extension product has been prepared to enable operation without repair cost burdens even after the EV6 warranty period ends.

Kia has made efforts to measure the environmental impact (carbon emissions) throughout the entire process from ▲raw material extraction ▲parts procurement ▲parts transportation ▲vehicle assembly ▲distribution ▲usage ▲to disposal, resulting in the first carbon footprint certification for a product in the domestic automotive industry from The Carbon Trust in the UK. Kia explained that a major factor in obtaining the carbon footprint certification was the application of eco-friendly materials equivalent to about 75 500ml PET bottles per vehicle in interior parts such as door map pockets and floor mats of the EV6.

A Kia official said, "We sincerely thank customers who have shown great interest in the EV6 and waited patiently for a long time. The EV6 will accompany all customer journeys and provide new experiences. It is significant that Kia’s EV6 is the first in the automotive industry to obtain carbon footprint certification. Kia will continue to make every effort to create a sustainable society."
