Continued Spread of Infection in 11 Cities and Counties
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] On the 1st, 23 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported across 11 cities and counties in Gangwon Province.
According to Gangwon Province health authorities as of 7 PM on the 1st, 7 cases were confirmed in Gangneung, 5 in Wonju, 4 in Donghae, 3 in Hoengseong, 2 in Chuncheon, and 1 each in Sokcho and Samcheok.
In Gangneung, 5 people were infected locally, including 1 foreigner, and 2 others were confirmed positive after contact with confirmed cases from other regions.
In Wonju, 2 people in their 40s and 50s were confirmed positive, and 2 additional people who had contact with them also tested positive. The remaining 1 person was confirmed during self-quarantine.
In Donghae, 3 foreigners tested positive, and epidemiological investigations are ongoing for their contacts. The remaining 1 person tested positive in a pre-release self-quarantine test.
In Chuncheon, a teacher was confirmed positive, and after testing about 140 students and teachers at the school, 2 additional cases were confirmed.
In Samcheok, 1 foreigner tested positive in a pre-entry screening, and in Sokcho, 1 person was confirmed positive during self-quarantine.
As a result, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Gangwon Province has risen to 4,560.
