'High Temperature Warning' in Pohang City: 78,310 Aquaculture Fish Dead at 8 Farms... Mayor Lee Kang-deok Visits Site

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] On the 30th, Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang visited the land-based aquaculture farm in Homigot-myeon, Nam-gu, where damage to cultured fish occurred due to high water temperatures, to encourage fishermen and inspect the response situation to the high water temperatures.

As of the 31st, 78,310 fish died at eight aquaculture farms in Pohang during the high water temperature advisory period.

After inspecting the affected fishing households, Mayor Lee comforted the aquaculture fishermen who are going through a difficult time due to the high water temperatures and listened to on-site difficulties and support requests from members of the Pohang Fish Farming Association.

Following the high water temperature advisory issued on the 24th by the National Institute of Fisheries Science for the central and southern coastal waters of the East Sea, Pohang City supplied 4,000 blocks of ice to the aquaculture farms.

To proactively respond to high water temperatures and prevent damage, a budget of 2.3 billion KRW has been secured to preemptively minimize damage by providing control equipment such as 428 tons of liquid oxygen, 525 circulation pumps, 8 tons of immune boosters, and 13 heat pumps.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, "We are doing our best to proactively respond to fisheries disasters to prevent damage, but we regret that damage has occurred. To minimize damage, we will expand and support practical damage prevention projects such as low-level intake lines and heat pumps."
