[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Vaccination for the 18-49 age group, the final piece of the COVID-19 herd immunity puzzle, will begin this month. First, pre-booking for priority vaccination groups such as delivery workers and sanitation workers in this age group will start this week, followed by reservation openings for the entire age group next week.

According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, pre-booking for priority vaccination groups among young and middle-aged adults by local governments will take place from the 3rd to the 6th of this month. Each local government selects priority vaccination candidates based on their specific characteristics and quarantine situations. The target group is approximately 2 million people, and vaccinations will begin on the 17th of this month. The vaccines used will be Pfizer or Moderna.

The priority vaccination groups include ▲ essential workers (public transportation workers, delivery workers, sanitation workers, call center employees, etc.) ▲ vaccination-disadvantaged groups (people with disabilities, foreign workers, international students, etc.) ▲ close contacts of children and adolescents (academy and youth-related workers, indoor sports facility workers, etc.) ▲ workers in high infection risk facilities (general and snack bars, karaoke rooms, PC cafes, etc.).

To distribute pre-booking for priority vaccination, on the 3rd, only those in the metropolitan area will be able to make reservations, and on the 4th, those outside the metropolitan area can book. From the 5th to the 6th, all priority vaccination candidates will have the opportunity to make reservations.

From the 5th, pre-booking will also begin for people with developmental disabilities and those with disabilities who have diseases that pose a high risk of severe COVID-19 progression. The target group is 296,000 people.

Additionally, about 16 million general citizens aged 18-49 can participate in vaccination through a '10-day pre-booking system' starting next week. The reservation period is ten days, from the 9th to the 18th. Reservations can only be made on the date matching the last digit of the resident registration number's birthdate. For example, if the birthdate on the resident registration number is March 29, 1988 (880329), since the last digit is ‘9’, the reservation can be made on August 9, which includes the digit 9.

Even if one misses the reservation during the ten days, additional reservations can be made during the three days from the 19th to the 21st after the 10-day system ends. Those aged 36-49 can book on the 19th, those aged 18-35 on the 20th, and on the last day, the 21st, all aged 18-49 can make additional reservations. From the 22nd to the 17th of next month, all eligible individuals, including those who missed the 10-day reservation, can make new reservations or change existing ones.

Vaccinations for those aged 18-49 who are not in the priority groups will be conducted from the 26th of this month to the 30th of next month. The vaccines administered will be Pfizer or Moderna.
