'From Illegal Pants Spring to Safety Fence'... Hyundai Motor's School Zone Safety Fence Campaign

Illegal Pants Spring Upcycling Turned into Safety Fences in Children's Protection Zones

'From Illegal Pants Spring to Safety Fence'... Hyundai Motor's School Zone Safety Fence Campaign

[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Motor Company is collaborating with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the National Police Agency, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and TS Korea Transportation Safety Authority to install safety fences in school zones, aiming to create a safer commuting environment for children.

On the 2nd, Hyundai Motor announced that on the 30th of last month, it signed a business agreement with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Seoul City, and TS Korea Transportation Safety Authority to cooperate on the "Campaign for Installing Safety Fences in School Zones by Removing Illegal Leaf Springs from Cargo Trucks."

The agreement, conducted in a non-face-to-face manner, was attended by Yoo Won-ha, Vice President and Head of Hyundai Motor’s Domestic Business Division; Kim Jeong-hee, Director of Automobile Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; Lee Hye-kyung, Director of Pedestrian-Friendly Planning at Seoul City; and Ryu Ik-hee, Head of Vehicle Inspection Division at the Transportation Safety Authority.

This campaign focuses on collecting auxiliary supports (leaf springs) of cargo truck beds that have not received official structural modification approval, and repurposing them into safety fences for school zones. Through upcycling, the campaign aims to simultaneously prevent accidents related to leaf springs?one of the major road hazards?and strengthen safety in school zones.

The safety fences will be installed starting in September in school zones selected by Seoul City in consultation with each district office.

As part of this campaign, Hyundai Motor will jointly operate a leaf spring collection program with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the National Police Agency, Seoul City, and the Transportation Safety Authority from the 3rd of this month until October 31st. The program supports the first 300 cargo truck owners who apply for the campaign by visiting Blue Hands service centers dedicated to commercial vehicles (50 locations nationwide), covering the cost of leaf spring removal and providing a fuel gift certificate worth 100,000 KRW.

Blue Hands service centers where applications can be made are accessible through the Commercial Customer Center or Hyundai Truck & Bus Kakao Plus Friend chat, and applications are accepted regardless of vehicle type or manufacturer.

A Hyundai Motor official stated, "With a small action, leaf springs that once threatened road safety can be completely transformed into protective devices that safeguard children. We will prepare various programs to improve traffic safety culture together with cargo truck owners and truckers nationwide."
