High Proportion of Charging Infrastructure in Seoul Metropolitan Area and Gyeongsang Region
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Customers who purchased Hyundai Motor Company's first dedicated electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5, were found to primarily consider charging infrastructure and safety/convenience features. Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 1st that this was revealed after analyzing data from 5,700 Ioniq 5 vehicles delivered by June.
According to Hyundai Motor Company, the age distribution of Ioniq 5 buyers (individual customers) was 31.1% in their 50s, 27.6% in their 40s, 20.6% aged 60 and above, 16.8% in their 30s, and 3.8% in their 20s. The gender ratio was 75% male and 25% female. This is similar to the gender and age distribution of general internal combustion engine vehicle buyers. Hyundai stated, "This is not significantly different from the proportion of major existing car consumer groups," adding, "It appears that customers accustomed to internal combustion engine vehicles chose the Ioniq 5 without hesitation."
By region, a strong correlation with charging infrastructure was observed. The metropolitan area (Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi), which has the highest number of electric vehicle charging stations at 29,324 locations, accounted for the largest share of residents at 32.8%, followed by the Gyeongsang region with 19,223 charging stations at 28.4%. The Chungcheong region (16.6%), Honam region (11%), Jeju (5.1%), and Gangwon (2.7%) followed.
Regarding selected options, many customers chose safety and convenience features. Based on package selections by trim, 69.4% of customers who purchased the Exclusive trim applied the Convenience Package, which includes Hyundai Digital Key, smartphone wireless charging, Hi-Pass system, ECM room mirror, and rain sensor.
Among customers who chose the Prestige trim, which includes the Convenience Package and Hyundai SmartSense as standard, 33.3% selected the Parking Assist Package (blind-spot view monitor, surround view monitor, rear parking collision-avoidance assist, remote smart parking assist). Among individual option selections, the in-cabin V2L was the most popular at 31.7%.
Meanwhile, keywords appearing in reviews from Ioniq 5 delivery customers included driving range and charging convenience. Hyundai also reported that one customer shared a review stating the driving range per single charge exceeded 600 km, certifying a longer driving range and excellent energy efficiency than the officially announced figures.
