Ruling Party: "Political Prosecutors, Amateurs" vs Opposition Party: "Double Standards"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] In response to the ruling party's harsh criticism of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol joining the People Power Party, the People Power Party criticized, saying, "It would have been better to confess that they are afraid of the public anger toward the government and ruling party, and scared of the power gathered by the hope for regime change."
Hwang Bo-seung-hee, senior spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a statement on the 31st, "The Democratic Party of Korea, which cannot see the beam in its own eye, poured out almost curse-like harsh words against former Prosecutor General Yoon's entry into the People Power Party."
The day before, voices of criticism rose from the ruling party, including party leadership and presidential candidates. Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party, said about Yoon's entry, "I don't understand why a person like Yoon Seok-yeol is doing politics," adding, "The public will watch how long politics can continue with the vague idea that the approval rating is high and power must be changed."
Kim Yong-min, Supreme Council member, criticized, "A politician who quickly drank the political neutrality of the prosecution like cheap liquor and only pursues personal gain," and Kim Young-bae, Supreme Council member, said, "It is a natural path recognizing the reality that amateur politics cannot avoid a miserable state."
Former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae said, "He revealed the true colors of a political prosecutor," and the camp of former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun also pointed out, "He ultimately embraced the heirs of the dictatorship party that degraded the prosecution into a servant of power and regressed Korean democracy."
In response, spokesperson Hwang Bo criticized the government's and ruling party's failures. He stated, "It seems only the Democratic Party still does not know the facts that all citizens are aware of," adding, "The most abnormal thing was the double standards, arrogance, and dogmatic politics of this regime and the Democratic Party itself. Those things caused people like former Prosecutor General Yoon and former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung, who were part of this regime, to turn their backs and enter politics."
Regarding the criticism of Yoon's party entry itself, he pointed out, "They praised him as the 'right person for prosecutorial reform,' but when he thinks differently from them, they instantly call him a 'traitor' and 'political prosecutor.' The Democratic Party's selective justice, double standards, and divisiveness are simply tiresome."
He continued, "Above all, in a country where freedom of candidacy and freedom to choose a political party are guaranteed, what is the problem with joining a party according to one's choice?"
