Addition of Sinan Topanyeom, Himalaya Pink Salt, and Andes Lake Salt
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Bohae Brewery is introducing a completely new soju that controls bitterness using one of the world's three major salts. Breaking the convention of existing liquor companies that used sugar to reduce the alcohol scent of soju, they attempted differentiation by adding salt recognized globally for its quality.
According to Bohae Brewery on the 30th, they will launch a completely new "Bohae Soju" so that soju, Korea's representative liquor, can be loved by people worldwide.
Bohae Soju has an alcohol content of 16.8 degrees and a volume of 375㎖. It offers one more shot (15㎖) than existing green bottles like Ipsaeju. It is scheduled to be sequentially stocked in large supermarkets and retail stores nationwide from mid-next month.
Bohae Brewery explained the background, stating that while BTS is loved worldwide and creating a new history of Hallyu, and Korean cuisine is gaining global popularity for its excellence, soju has not escaped harsh evaluations, prompting the development of a new soju.
They reconsidered from the beginning to create a completely new product, Bohae Soju, to introduce to the world beyond Korea. True to the name Bohae, meaning "jewel-like sea," Bohae Soju selected sun-dried sea salt obtained from the sea.
They added precious ingredients obtained from the sea in optimal ratios, including Sinan topan salt, counted among the world's three major salts, Himalayan pink salt, and Andes lake salt.
During the development process, various verifications were conducted targeting general consumers and internal members. Through this, the salt added to Bohae Soju was proven to have a clean taste that stimulates appetite rather than a salty taste.
In particular, the abundant mineral content in the sun-dried salt is evaluated to reduce bitterness while enhancing the original flavor of soju.
Bohae Soju's creation involved collaboration with Son Hyewon, former CEO of Crosspoint, a brand marketing expert.
Son, who has partnered with major companies to create popular brands such as "Trom," "Hillstate," and "Jung Kwan Jang," is raising expectations for Bohae Soju.
Interest is focused on whether Son, who directly contributed to the birth of the current top 1 and 2 products in the liquor market, can create another hit with Bohae Soju.
The most focused point while preparing Bohae Soju with Son was that the company should be faithful to its inherent values rather than just following trends.
Currently, various retro products are being released and sold in the liquor market. Due to the large number of liquors released following the retro trend, most end up selling little and disappearing from the market. Bohae adopted a product label design that can show the company's inherent value rather than simply chasing the retro trend.
Bohae, meaning "jewel-like sea," and the slogan "The depth of the sea in a single glass," which emphasizes the sea, placed the character "Hae" (海, meaning sea) prominently on the front of Bohae Soju.
The characters on the front of Bohae Soju are written by Chusa Kim Jeonghui, a representative calligrapher of the Joseon Dynasty, expressing a wish for vigorous energy to spread widely.
They innovated the design by placing product information on the front side label and adding a colorful logo that captures attention at a glance along with the company name on the back.
A Bohae Brewery official said, "Bohae Soju is a completely new product that fully demonstrates Bohae Brewery's technological prowess so that the excellence of our soju can be proudly showcased overseas. Bohae Brewery, recognized worldwide for Bohae Bokbunja-ju, will make Bohae Soju another product that gains recognition and serves as an opportunity to promote the excellence of our liquors."
Meanwhile, Bohae Brewery Co., Ltd., founded 71 years ago by the late founder Lim Gwanghaeng in 1950, is a traditional liquor specialist company leading the domestic liquor market with the principle of making "good liquor" and "kind liquor."
Its representative products include ▲Ipsaeju, the best soju selected by sommeliers ▲Maechwisun, brewed only with green plums directly produced at Haenam Bohae Plum Farm, known for its mild and clean taste ▲Bohae Bokbunja-ju, made with the highest-grade bokbunja (Korean black raspberry) for a deep and rich flavor ▲Brother Soda, a product with 3% alcohol content characterized by soda flavor with added carbonation for freshness and sweetness ▲Bokbadeun Brother, a bokbunja fruit liqueur that maximizes the taste and color of bokbunja by adding domestic bokbunja juice.
