Hotel Industry Prepares New Exhibitions Targeting Summer Cultural Vacation Demand
Strengthening Exhibition Space Disinfection Measures

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Despite the relentless heatwave continuing day after day, it is still difficult to travel due to the resurgence of COVID-19 these days. 'Art Hokkangseu' (art hotel vacation) enjoyed at hotels is gaining attention as a unique summer vacation method. Not only can visitors appreciate artworks indoors while maintaining social distancing away from the scorching sun, but also the strengthened disinfection activities allow people to enjoy cultural life with relative peace of mind. As interest grows, the hotel industry has also begun preparations to target this related demand.

On the 31st, Paradise City announced that the 'INTER-MISSION' exhibition held at the art exhibition space 'Paradise Art Space' is gaining popularity. As the exhibition name suggests, it was planned to offer a healing time through art to everyday life exhausted by over a year of COVID-19. The exhibition features works by a total of 14 artists including Kim Jong-hak, Kim Chang-yeol, Park Seo-bo, Oh Soo-hwan, Lee Kang-so, Lee Bae, Lee Bul, Candida H?fer, and Donald Judd, all in one place, which has been gaining word-of-mouth popularity.

A representative of Paradise City said, "Since the exhibition started in April, more than 40,000 people have visited," adding, "The response is very positive, with many visitors coming not only as hotel guests but also solely to see the exhibition." The exhibition can be viewed until the 29th of next month. The hotel representative added, "We are operating an integrated hygiene management system based on the 'International Environmental Disinfection Certification (GBAC STAR),' which was recently acquired as the first domestic complex resort, and strictly adhering to basic quarantine rules to ensure the safety of visitors and staff."

In addition, Paradise City offers about 3,000 artworks including famous works by contemporary art masters such as Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Kusama Yayoi, and Alessandro Mendini. In the second half of this year, they are preparing Asia's first large-scale audio cinematic art exhibition using cutting-edge technology.

Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul has prepared an 'Art Vacance' exhibition to offer relaxation time to customers visiting the hotel during the summer vacation season. In collaboration with Gallery Planet, this exhibition runs until September 7 and features a diverse collection of works by contemporary artists and edition works loved by art enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy a variety of popular works in one place, from Andy Warhol's familiar 'Flower' series prints to Lee Kyung-mi's 'NANA the Astro' series, known for realistic paintings featuring cats.

At the gallery located in Kensington Hotel Yeouido, an exhibition of works by artist Woo Hyun-ah is held until September 6. This exhibition is presented by Artro, a complex cultural space brand of E-Land Gallery. Woo Hyun-ah, who presents works that bring happiness to busy and tired modern people, showcases pieces themed 'A Gift to Give' that depict a journey to find happiness in everyday life. The hotel also offers curator services for guests, which can be requested at check-in and provided between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. the following day.

At 'Gallery Soi' located on the basement first floor of Jeju Podo Hotel, a solo exhibition titled 'Got - The Eternal Forest' by artist Kim Bok-shin, who continues to work on Jeju’s forest 'Gotjawal,' is held until October 6. For Kim, who is from Jeju, Gotjawal is both a hometown and a place of memories. To express the time and memories passed, Kim uniquely depicts the trees inside Gotjawal by reconstructing dots, lines, and planes and layering them step by step on the canvas.
