[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the 30th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor held a meeting with delivery and logistics companies such as Coupang, Kurly, CJ Logistics, and Hanjin at the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office in Jung-gu, Seoul, urging compliance with heatstroke prevention rules for workers. Heatstroke is an occupational disease classified as a serious accident under the recently announced Enforcement Decree of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act by the government.
At the meeting, Kim Gyuseok, Director of Industrial Accident Prevention and Supervision Policy at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, requested that outdoor workers and indoor workers exposed to high temperatures strictly follow the three major heatstroke prevention rules?providing sufficient water, shade, and rest?and take active measures such as operating cooling facilities.
He also asked for proper implementation of measures to prevent fires at logistics centers, including management of heating appliances, regular inspection of firefighting facilities, deployment of fire watchers, and placement of fire extinguishing equipment.
Director Kim urged, "(The companies attending the meeting) are leading representative companies in the delivery and distribution industry, and I hope they thoroughly follow the three basic rule implementation guidelines to prevent worker harm due to heatwaves."
