[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said on the 30th, "We must develop the best possible counter-terrorism posture by thoroughly preparing measures against cyberterrorism and establishing mid- to long-term response plans for various potential future terrorist threats."

Prime Minister Kim made these remarks while presiding over the 13th National Counter-Terrorism Committee meeting at the Government Seoul Office in the afternoon.

He expressed concern, saying, "Looking at the international terrorism situation, extremist armed groups such as the Islamic State (ISIS) and other international terrorist organizations are attempting to expand their influence by taking advantage of governments' full-scale response to COVID-19. They are also increasing their threats by diversifying terrorist methods using new technologies such as drones and cyberattacks." He added, "Domestically, cases of foreigners supporting international terrorist organizations financially or promoting and inciting terrorism in their vicinity continue to be detected, so the threat of terrorism remains ever-present."

In response, Prime Minister Kim urged counter-terrorism agencies, "Focus on proactively preventing terrorism by eliminating threat factors in advance. However, if a situation arises, please ensure the establishment of a counter-terrorism posture capable of resolving the situation swiftly and thoroughly by integrating available capabilities."
