[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Moon Jun-hee, Mayor of Hapcheon County, Gyeongnam, participated on the 30th in a relay challenge condemning and urging the withdrawal of the Japanese government's decision to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean.

This challenge is being conducted to strongly condemn and urge the withdrawal of the Japanese government's unilateral decision, made on April 13, to discharge approximately 125 tons of radioactive contaminated water stored at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean over 30 years starting from 2023, despite deep concerns from neighboring countries and the international community.

Mayor Moon Jun-hee of Hapcheon said, "I strongly urge the Japanese government to withdraw its unilateral decision to discharge contaminated water into the ocean, which could pose a serious threat to human safety and the ecosystem, and to fulfill its responsibilities as a member of the international community."

Having been nominated by Han Jung-woo, Mayor of Changnyeong County, Mayor Moon Jun-hee of Hapcheon nominated Geom Kwang-yong, Mayor of Geoje, and Jeong Jong-hwa, Superintendent of Hapcheon Office of Education, as the next participants in the challenge.
