Jeju Police and Local Governments Jointly Conduct Special Inspection on Violations of Quarantine Rules

Jeju Police and Local Governments Jointly Conduct Special Inspection on Violations of Quarantine Rules

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Police Agency (Chief Kang Hwangsu) announced on the 30th that on the 29th, they formed a joint crackdown team with local governments and the autonomous police unit to conduct a special inspection of violations of quarantine rules, focusing on the representative entertainment district Nuwemaru Street and the area around Jeju City Hall.

This inspection was the second joint inspection with related agencies following a comprehensive inspection of the Yeondong New Town area recently, deploying a total of 32 personnel including 13 police officers, 15 local government officials, and 4 autonomous police officers.

They also focused on inspecting establishments registered as general restaurants such as cafes and bars that were operating irregularly by employing hostesses.

This was based on the judgment that since Jeju Province issued a gathering ban order targeting entertainment bars and karaoke bars from the 15th, customers of bars have been flocking to cafes, bars, and other places that are blind spots in quarantine enforcement.

The joint crackdown team found 4 cases of quarantine rule violations, including negligence in managing entry logs, as a result of this inspection.

Chief Kang Hwangsu said, “Considering that COVID-19 infections originating from entertainment facilities continue to occur despite the gathering ban on entertainment facilities in the province and the elevation to social distancing level 3, we plan to extend the special crackdown period scheduled until the 31st by one month and operate it until the 31st of next month.”

He added, “We will also proceed with inspections of illegal activities such as violations of quarantine rules at guesthouses where a large number of recent infections have occurred, together with local governments and the autonomous police unit.”
