Technical Proposal Evaluation for Incheon 3rd Interconnection Bridge Section 2 from Yeongjongdo to Cheongna... POSCO Construction Ranks 1st Incheon 3rd Interconnection Bridge and Main Tower Observatory Bird's-eye View [Provided by Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority]

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced on the 30th that the POSCO Construction Consortium ranked first in the evaluation of the technical proposal for the detailed design of Section 2 of the Third Intercontinental Bridge construction project.

Since the technical proposal evaluation accounts for 70% of the total score, the POSCO Construction Consortium is highly likely to be selected as the final successful bidder for the Section 2 construction project.

The POSCO Construction Consortium proposed an original cable-stayed bridge design instead of the original 'reverse Y-shaped' cable-stayed bridge for the main span of the Third Intercontinental Bridge, with the second longest main span of 560m in Korea (the longest being Incheon Bridge at 800m).

They also proposed a 180m-high main tower observatory, the highest bridge observatory in the world. Currently, the highest bridge observatory in the world is the 128m-high Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory in the United States.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to select the final successful bidder after conducting a price evaluation through the Public Procurement Service and sign the contract next month. Afterward, a supplementary design process will take place over three months, with construction scheduled to begin in November this year.

Among the three sections, Section 3, which includes priority construction such as quays and marine dredging, began construction at the end of last year, and Sections 1 and 2 are preparing for construction within the year after selecting successful bidders. Section 1's technical proposal evaluation is scheduled for the 12th of next month.

The Third Intercontinental Bridge, connecting Yeongjongdo and Cheongna International City, will be 4.67 km long with six lanes (three lanes each way), aiming for completion in December 2025.

Among the three bridges connecting Yeongjongdo, it will be the only one equipped with pedestrian and bicycle paths and will be constructed as an experiential tourism cultural space where visitors can view the sunset over the West Sea from the bridge's main tower observatory.

The Third Intercontinental Bridge will be built as a smart bridge representing Korea, incorporating a multi-lane Hi-Pass system for safe and swift tollgate passage, as well as an intelligent traffic management system providing video analysis, traffic information, and road weather information.

The total project cost is 650 billion KRW. Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) will bear 521.2 billion KRW (80.2%), Incheon Urban Corporation 98.2 billion KRW (15.1%), Incheon International Airport Corporation 14.9 billion KRW (2.3%), Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority 13.1 billion KRW (2%), and Hansang Dream Island 2.5 billion KRW (0.4%).
