Samyoung E&C, whose main business is the manufacturing and sales of ship electronic equipment such as ship communication equipment, navigation equipment, and defense equipment, announced that this year it is focusing on building infrastructure such as the Korean-type operating system and digital maritime wireless communication system to achieve early implementation of the Korean-style E-Navigation service system. This system aims to provide essential maritime information services mandated by the International Maritime Organization and services specialized for Korea's maritime environment.
This system involves developing and establishing standards for standardized data exchange between shore communication and ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore, maritime information sharing systems, digital maritime communication implementation, technical specifications for standardized modes of ship navigation equipment, and international standards.
The most representative function of the Korean-style e-Nav service is optimized for comprehensive situational awareness and response, providing rapid assessment and warnings. It supports quick crisis response by detecting abnormal situations on passenger ships and hazardous material carriers through onboard sensors. It also features a function that recommends optimal routes by comprehensively considering weather, tides, and traffic conditions along the planned route. Additionally, it supports functions for safe and efficient ship operation, such as electronic chart streaming, pilot and tugboat assistance, and provision of marine safety information.
Since the Korean-style e-Nav can receive support for equipment distribution through the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives and the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority, it is expected to be of great help to many fishermen. The product, consisting of ship terminals and transceivers, can receive subsidies for LTE-M transceivers and e-Nav display devices depending on the options selected.
Samyoung E&C and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries are presenting visions and strategies for seeking continuous development directions of the service and establishing national mid- to long-term policy plans to achieve policy goals such as preventing maritime accidents. They stated that by 2025, they aim to implement the world's best intelligent maritime traffic information service, establish an effective and stable maritime traffic information service system, remove usage barriers, and enhance safety welfare.
A representative of Samyoung E&C said, “In the future, digital maritime traffic information services will be a system first established by Korea in the world and will be internationally recognized and used globally through strengthened cooperation with the International Maritime Organization. Core technologies developed through domestic R&D, such as next-generation maritime data communication and electronic charts, as well as digital equipment like marine navigation terminals, will be able to capture the global market. We will also strive to enter the global market.”
