The Mamma launches new app 'ZA'... "From accommodation to fresh food all in one"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] The Momma (CEO Minsu Kim), which operates a neighborhood mart shopping O2O (Online to Offline) app, announced on the 30th that it will launch a new app called ‘ZA’.


ZA is a one-stop accommodation reservation and fresh food shopping platform. The official service will begin on the 2nd of next month. It differentiates itself from existing similar apps with the concept of covering the two most important elements of travel?lodging and food?in one go. Through the ZA app, members can use services such as accommodation reservations, instant shopping at nearby grocery marts, and delivery from local popular restaurants. According to the company, ZA is the first platform to combine and provide these three services.


The Momma planned the ZA app by focusing on the significant increase in weekend sales of marts located in tourist areas, based on sales data from local marts secured through operating the Mamma Meokja app. Additionally, it acquired Matei, which operates ‘Hotel Enjoy,’ a comprehensive accommodation reservation platform with 1.4 million members, and incorporated it as an affiliate. Subsequently, the accommodation reservation function of the Hotel Enjoy app was combined with fresh food shopping features and upgraded into the ZA app.


ZA will take its first step with over 1.4 million members by transferring Hotel Enjoy members upon launch. The Momma plans to gradually expand the scope of ZA app services. With the long-term slogan ‘Life platform for the MZ generation,’ it intends to handle various items such as tickets, passes, clothing, and beauty products.


To activate the ZA app, The Momma will conduct promotions twice a month and invest 200 million KRW monthly in marketing. As of this month, approximately 800 Mamma Meokja and ZA affiliated marts plan to use existing advertising media such as text messages and flyers targeting members to promote the new app.


Through this, The Momma expects to quickly raise ZA’s awareness and increase app order amounts. Affiliated marts will also benefit from increased sales without additional costs.


The Momma plans to continuously upgrade the platform to create the strongest neighborhood-based platform. A representative from The Momma said, “We started the ZA service to solve the inconvenient consumption behavior of purchasing groceries in advance and carrying them heavily when traveling. We expect this business model, where customers order desired products from local grocery marts matched with their accommodation and receive delivery within two hours, to receive a good response in the market.”


To commemorate the launch of ZA, The Momma has prepared three promotions. First, ZA users will be entered into a draw to win luxury bags, two-person trips to Jeju Island, ZA points usable like cash, and other prizes totaling about 100 million KRW. Those who newly register on the ZA app and book accommodations or purchase mart products between August 2 and October 3 will be eligible for the draw.


Additionally, from August 2 to 14, a ‘Chikangseu Package’ combining accommodation and chicken gifticons will be sold to a limited 500 customers for about two weeks. On August 15, Liberation Day, coupons allowing reservations at selected accommodations at half price will be provided to the first 500 customers on a first-come, first-served basis. Furthermore, various events such as selling planned products at special prices below 100 KRW will be introduced.
