Concurrent Recruitment and Recommendation of 7 External Members... "Appointment of Top Experts in Relevant Fields"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Daegu City announced on the 30th that it will form the 'Design Competition Steering Committee' in August, which will professionally review, advise, and decide on major matters throughout the international design competition for the new city hall.
The Design Competition Steering Committee for the new city hall will consist of a total of 9 members, including 2 internal members and 7 external members.
The external members will be experts in various fields, including four architects, one urban planner, one transportation specialist, and one landscape architect. They will be selected from assistant professors or higher at universities, directors or higher at related companies or institutions (such as professional engineers or architects), those with experience participating as members of design competition committees, and architects with experience in design competition achievements or awards.
Daegu City plans to appoint the top experts in related fields as committee members through a combination of open recruitment and recommendations from academic societies and associations, and operate the committee until the conclusion of the international design competition. The open recruitment will be conducted for 15 days from the 30th to August 13th through an announcement on the Daegu City website.
The Design Competition Steering Committee will provide professional opinions on design competition proposals, conduct practical reviews to ensure fairness and expertise in judging, such as checking for violations of regulations or excessive design, advise on the overall operation of the competition including the preparation of the design competition guidelines, and decide on major matters. The committee will select design competition judges and review any legal or guideline violations in the proposals, submitting their opinions in writing to the judging committee.
The Daegu City new city hall is planned to be built on a site of approximately 78,000㎡, with a total project cost of 300 billion KRW, and a total building floor area of 97,000㎡. Currently, a feasibility study by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is underway.
Daegu City plans to complete the central investment review by February next year, proceed with the international design competition and architectural design, start construction in 2024, and complete it in 2026.
Kim Choong-han, Head of Daegu City's Future Space Development Headquarters, stated, "We ask that the top domestic experts participate in the Daegu City new city hall Design Competition Steering Committee, and we will transparently and fairly proceed with the construction of the new city hall together with the citizens as planned."
