[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] Choi Jae-hyung, a presidential candidate from the opposition, will officially announce his bid for the presidency on August 4.

On the 30th, a representative from Choi’s campaign stated, "Choi will make his presidential candidacy declaration on the afternoon of August 4."

The announcement will be held non-face-to-face (untact) considering the COVID-19 situation. The online video conferencing system Zoom will be used for the Q&A session. On the day of the announcement, Choi plans to answer questions covering all fields including politics, diplomacy and security, and labor.

The declaration is expected to include the necessity of regime change and hope for future generations. Kim Young-woo, a former lawmaker serving as the head of the situation room in Choi’s campaign, appeared on MBC Radio’s "Kim Jong-bae’s Focus" that day and explained, "The declaration will honestly convey the constitutional spirit, the future of the Republic of Korea, the reason for leaving the position of Auditor General to run for president, not in political language but with genuine anguish and vision."

Ahead of the announcement, the campaign is also intensifying its policy team appointments. Cheon Young-woo, chairman of the Korea Future Forum and former senior secretary for foreign affairs and security under the Lee Myung-bak administration, will oversee diplomacy and security. Former JoongAng Ilbo editorial director Kim Jong-hyuk will be in charge of media and press policies.

Another representative from Choi’s campaign said, "The campaign is expanding," and added, "We will gradually disclose more people in the future."
